Isabel  Carvalho
Porto, Portugal, 1977. Lives and works in Porto.

Isabel Carvalho is one of the artists graduated from Faculdade de Belas Artes do Porto (faculty of Fine Arts) who, in the last ten years, has been playing a relevant role in the artistic activity of the city, especially in an alternative circuit of creation and exhibition activated by the artists themselves. She had integrated collaborative experiences such as Grupo ZOiNA, Caldeira 213 and Ateliers Mentol.  At the moment, is responsible for Navio Vazio, a space with a program centred in the book and in publishing as a vehicle for artistic creation.

Publishing is one of the areas that the artist has been recently dedicating her attention. Her practice is mainly related with drawing, painting, performance, writing and comics, strategies that make possible the expression of political and social contents. Art always was a way to discuss issues not only connected with the artistic practice and its relation with economy and politics, but also with notions of identity, feminism and sexuality.

Currently, is Artist in Residence at Künstlerhaus Bethanien, in Berlin.
