inverno presents recent works constructed from balsa wood, painted with China ink, acrylics or spray. In these pieces, an attention is given to the cut, to the full, to the empty, to the superposition of the different thicknesses of the balsa, to the shades of gray and to the appearing of colour. Some come from “accidents” and are closer to chance; others regard a previous drawing, and, occasionally, can find relations with diverse materials.
This exhibition reflects an essential search in Ana Santos’ practice: to think the creation of objects and its articulation with the exhibition space, within the expanded field of drawing. Her process, varied and economical, tries to find several formal solutions for a continuous, pragmatic and quick exercise of fixing the gesture and the idea contained in that same gesture as transforming action.
