Weismann’s paintings feature elaborate figurative scenarios imbued with deadpan humour and a certain pathos. This is combined with a rigorous exploration of composition, pattern and colour. Recurring motifs include piles of discarded objects, unravelling architecture, and multi-faced domestic spaces.
Recent work has explored the similarities between the introspective privacy of reading books and the personal experience of a painting practice. And the possibilities of painting to be a store of meaning with parallels to other forms of physical and virtual archives, and to be a surface on which we might wrestle with making sense of a world in flux.
