Mary Sue (her raw gaze)
Titania Seidl

Opening: 21st September, 4 pm

Mary Sue (her raw gaze)
is a group of artworks named after the archetype of fan fiction literature - a female character, too perfect to be well written, too likeable to be interesting to read about, often acting as an idealized alias of the female author. On show at Quadrado Azul in Porto there will be ten paintings, some large on canvas, and some small on molded reliefs. Between themselves, they create a narrative about the search for female subjectivity and the possibility of finding - and using - a genuine female gaze.

Titania Seidl (1988) lives and works in Vienna. She recently exhibited at Belvedere 21, Vienna; Centrum, Berlin; White Dwarf Magazine, Vienna; a271, Düsseldorf; Kunstnernes Hus, Oslo. She teaches at the University of Applied Arts, Vienna, and runs the curatorial project MAUVE with Lukas Thaler.
