The Pyrgus from Chaves is the project Francisco Tropa developed for the Calouste Gulbenkian Fousantion's Conversations Space. that brings together contemporary sculpture and archaeology, in collaboration with the archaeologist Sérgio Carneiro. The starting point is a bronze "pyrgus" or "dice box" found recently found in the Roman Baths of Chaves, in a project that intertwines contemporary sculpture and archeology and that has the collaboration of the archeologist Sérgio Carneiro. The artist places a unique object from the Roman period in the center of his project, evoking notions of time and origins; history and chance; the body, play and death. The exhibition is curated by Sérgio Carneiro and Penelope Curtis and can be visited until the June 3rd in Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, in Lisbon.
